Political Earthquake in APC? Over 70 National Assembly Members Lose Return Tickets

A major political shake-up appears to be unfolding within the All Progressives Congress as no fewer than 70 serving members of the National Assembly are reportedly facing an uncertain political future after losing return tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development has triggered fresh conversations across the country, with many now wondering whether the APC primaries have opened the door to a dramatic restructuring of political influence within the ruling party.

Preliminary results emerging from the primaries suggest that at least 58 members of the House of Representatives and 12 senators may not be returning to the National Assembly after failing to secure party tickets. Although some constituency results are still being finalized, the early outcomes have already produced several surprising political casualties.

Among those affected is Rep Donatus Matthew, popularly known as the “Okada Rider,” who was elected under the Labour Party before moving to the APC. Reports indicate that he was later disqualified during the party screening process.

Several other lawmakers who switched political platforms also reportedly failed in their attempts to secure fresh tickets. Those affected include Esosa Iyawe and other serving lawmakers from different states.

The Senate also witnessed significant political losses. Among those reportedly affected are Gbenga Daniel, Ned Nwoko and several others whose political futures now appear uncertain.

Political analysts believe the situation may become more challenging because of electoral regulations and party deadlines that could limit opportunities for affected lawmakers to seek alternative platforms.

With party primaries continuing to reshape alliances and ambitions, the latest developments suggest that Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of 2027 may already be entering one of its most dramatic phases.
