Fresh political debate has erupted after documents released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 presidential election showed that President Bola Tinubu did not include his primary and secondary school qualifications in the educational section of his EC9 nomination form.

The documents, published by INEC in line with the revised timetable for the 2027 general election, contain the nomination papers and supporting credentials submitted by presidential and vice-presidential candidates.

A review of President Tinubu’s EC9 form reveals that only his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Business Administration from Chicago State University, obtained in 1979, was listed under the educational qualifications section.

The spaces designated for primary and secondary school qualifications were left blank, a development that has already generated widespread reactions across political circles and social media.

Despite the blank sections, the President attached copies of his university degree certificate and his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate as part of the documents submitted to INEC.

According to the nomination form, Tinubu stated that he was born on March 29, 1952, in Lagos and identified his occupation as “Politician.”

The President also outlined his professional history, indicating that he worked with Mobil Nigeria Limited between 1983 and 1992 before serving as Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007.

He further listed his current employer as the Federal Government of Nigeria, serving as President from 2023 to date, while declaring that he had never been dismissed from public service.

The publication of the EC9 documents is part of INEC’s standard electoral process, allowing the public and interested stakeholders to examine the credentials submitted by candidates seeking elective offices.

With political campaigns gradually gathering momentum ahead of the 2027 general election, the contents of candidates’ nomination documents are expected to remain under intense public scrutiny, as supporters and critics continue to examine every detail ahead of what promises to be another fiercely contested presidential race.
