Fresh controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) has thrown President Bola Tinubu’s administration into the spotlight, with the dispute involving Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila and Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi raising new questions about accountability and institutional oversight.

The Presidency has consistently maintained that the PFIPC never existed and described Adeyemi as an impostor. However, the controversy has intensified after Adeyemi challenged government officials to investigate how the purported agency allegedly appeared in the national budget despite being declared non-existent.

In a recent interaction with social media activist VeryDarkMan, Adeyemi insisted he was prepared to surrender himself to the Department of State Services (DSS) or the Nigeria Police Force, along with all documents in his possession, to assist investigators in uncovering the truth.

According to Adeyemi, he was in police detention while the national budget was being prepared and therefore could not have participated in any budget defence process. He questioned how an agency now described as fictitious allegedly found its way into the federal appropriation process without attracting scrutiny from the Presidency or the National Assembly.

Responding to the growing controversy, President Tinubu directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the activities of the alleged council and all related matters. The President ordered the anti-graft agency to conclude its investigation within 30 days and submit a detailed report.

The Presidency said the investigation would examine alleged forged appointment letters, the opening of bank accounts using suspected fake government documents, attempts to obtain official recognition through false claims of presidential appointment and the possible involvement of public officials or private individuals.

The scandal has also generated political reactions, with opposition figures calling for the suspension of officials mentioned in the controversy pending the outcome of investigations, while legal experts have urged the government to allow an independent and transparent probe to establish the facts.

As investigations gather momentum, the PFIPC saga continues to dominate national discourse, with many Nigerians awaiting answers on how the alleged agency reportedly operated and whether deeper institutional failures enabled the unfolding controversy.
