Fresh political drama has unfolded in Rivers State as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, declared that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has corrected his mistakes by returning to the political family that brought him to power.
Speaking on Tuesday after inspecting ongoing road projects across the Federal Capital Territory, Wike dismissed the growing debate surrounding Fubara’s reconciliation with his political camp, insisting that the governor simply made the right decision after recognizing he had gone down the wrong path.
According to the former Rivers State governor, there is nothing unusual or shameful about political reconciliation. He argued that politics is driven by interests and alliances, not permanent divisions, stressing that acknowledging an error and taking steps to correct it should not be seen as a weakness.
“He has no option but to return to the political family that made him. I don’t know what you mean by sin. In politics, there is no sin. If someone realises they made a mistake and decides to correct it, there is nothing wrong with that,” Wike stated.
The FCT minister also rejected suggestions that Fubara’s return should be interpreted as an act of forgiveness following months of political tension between both camps. Instead, he maintained that the governor merely corrected a political miscalculation.
Wike further revealed that he had predicted the reconciliation long before Fubara publicly confirmed it, expressing confidence that the renewed alliance would strengthen political mobilization in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He noted that the reconciliation would provide a stronger platform to rally support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambition, suggesting that unity within the political structure would play a significant role in future electoral strategies.
The latest comments have reignited conversations across the country, with many Nigerians closely watching how the restored relationship between Wike and Fubara could reshape Rivers State politics and influence preparations for the 2027 elections.
