Emotional Appeal as Community Condemns Abductors and Prays for Safe Return of Children Held in Captivity

As efforts intensify to secure the release of dozens of abducted students and teachers in Oyo State, the Muslim Community of Oyo State has broken its silence on one of the most controversial aspects of the crisis—reports that kidnappers attempted to justify their actions with demands linked to Sharia law.

In a strongly worded statement, Muslim leaders distanced Islam from the actions of the abductors, declaring that terrorists and kidnappers have no authority to speak on behalf of the religion.

The response comes after the shocking abduction of 39 students and seven teachers during attacks on schools in Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area. The incident, which reportedly claimed two lives, has left families, educators, and residents gripped by fear and uncertainty.

Reacting to reported conditions allegedly presented by the kidnappers, the Muslim Community insisted that Islam strictly forbids kidnapping, terrorism, violence, and the extortion of innocent people. According to the group, genuine Sharia principles promote justice, peace, mercy, and the protection of human life—values that stand in direct opposition to criminal activities.

The statement, signed by Chairman Alhaji Ishaq Kunle Sanni and Secretary-General Alhaji Murisiku Abidemi Siyanbade, emphasized that no criminal group should be allowed to manipulate religious teachings to legitimize unlawful acts.

Quoting the Holy Qur’an, the community reminded the public that taking innocent lives is strongly condemned in Islam and that saving lives is considered one of the highest virtues.

Beyond rejecting the kidnappers’ claims, the Muslim leadership called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities. They also reaffirmed their support for ongoing rescue efforts aimed at securing the freedom of the victims.

In a show of solidarity with affected families, the community announced a special prayer session for the safe return of the abductees. The gathering, to be led by the Chief Imam of Ibadanland and Grand Chief Imam of Oyo State, Sheikh Al-Imam Abdul-Ganiyy Abubakar Agbotomokekere, is expected to bring together worshippers seeking divine intervention.

As concern grows over the welfare of the kidnapped victims, including toddlers reportedly as young as two years old, the community says its message is simple: criminals cannot redefine Islam, and innocent lives must be protected at all costs.
