The Nigeria Police Force’s National Cybercrime Centre has begun profiling Nzube Henry Ikeji, a Nigerian socialite, over allegations that he impersonated the Dubai Crown Prince to defraud a Romanian woman of $2.5 million.
Commissioner Uche Ifeanyi confirmed that investigations intensified after a viral OCCRP documentary exposed the alleged romance and investment scam. The scheme reportedly began three years ago via LinkedIn, targeting the victim under the guise of humanitarian and investment opportunities.
The documentary claims internal disputes among accomplices exposed Ikeji, including video evidence allegedly showing him at a mansion. Investigators have tracked Ikeji using social media, including his Instagram accounts and those of his wife, and are still at the profiling stage.
Police await formal complaints from the victim or documentary producers before taking further action. Once sufficient evidence is obtained, authorities could proceed with arrest or prosecution. The case underscores the growing sophistication of online impersonation scams and the urgent need for public vigilance in digital interactions.
