Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a Nigerian soldier who was declared wanted over allegations that he supplied military uniforms and accoutrements to terrorist groups operating in the North-East, in what security experts describe as a major breakthrough in the fight against insurgency.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the suspect was identified as Private Mohammed Yusuf (23NA/84/1939) of the Nigerian Army Ordnance Training Facility (NAOTF), Lagos.
Makama disclosed that the soldier was apprehended at about 6:30 p.m. on July 25, 2026, by troops of the 7 Provost Group led by the Acting Commander after an intelligence-led operation.
Preliminary investigations reportedly revealed that before he was declared wanted by the Nigerian Army, Yusuf allegedly absconded from his unit and travelled to Maiduguri on July 7, 2026, where he went into hiding.
Further investigations indicated that the suspect was allegedly sheltered at Gomari Costain in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State by Private Baba Kamal Sale (25NA/89/12687) of the Corps of Intelligence, Dikwa.
Acting on credible intelligence, troops reportedly placed the wanted soldier under round-the-clock surveillance before intercepting him at Jidari Bus Stop while he was allegedly attempting to flee to neighbouring Cameroon.
Makama stated that the suspect is currently in the custody of the 7 Provost Group, where investigators are probing allegations that he supplied military uniforms to terrorist elements and determining whether other individuals were involved in the operation.
The latest arrest is expected to intensify efforts by security agencies to dismantle insider networks suspected of assisting terrorist groups with logistics and sensitive military materials.
Authorities are continuing investigations to determine the full extent of the suspect’s alleged activities and identify any collaborators who may have played a role in the operation.
The development comes as Nigeria’s military continues to strengthen operations aimed at cutting off supply channels and weakening insurgent groups across the North-East.
