Desmond Elliott Breaks Silence on Defection Rumours, Declares Loyalty to APC

Popular Nollywood actor and Lagos lawmaker Desmond Elliott has stirred fresh political conversations after revealing that he would willingly step aside if the All Progressives Congress asks him to support another candidate.

Speaking during an interview on TVC, Elliott dismissed growing calls urging him to defect from the APC, insisting that his loyalty remains firmly with the party that gave him the opportunity to enter politics.

According to the lawmaker, several individuals had approached him with suggestions to switch political parties, but he rejected the idea, stressing that he remains grateful to the APC leadership for believing in him from the beginning.

“So many people have called and said, ‘Hey, go to another party,’” Elliott revealed during the interview.

In a statement that has already sparked mixed reactions online, the actor-turned-politician declared that he would obey the party’s decision if leaders eventually ask him to step aside for another candidate.

“If the party says, ‘Desmond, you have done well, go and sit down,’ I will sit down and support whoever the party picks,” he said.

Political observers say the comments reflect growing conversations around loyalty, internal party discipline, and political survival ahead of future elections in Lagos State and across Nigeria.

Elliott’s remarks also come amid increasing speculation over political realignments and defections as politicians quietly position themselves ahead of the 2027 election cycle.

Beyond the defection rumours, the lawmaker recently drew attention after publicly apologising to Femi Gbajabiamila over possible misunderstandings linked to political developments within Lagos politics.

The apology followed tensions surrounding the Lagos State House of Assembly leadership crisis, although Elliott insisted any offence caused was unintentional.

As political calculations continue behind the scenes, many supporters and critics are now watching closely to see whether Elliott’s loyalty to the APC will strengthen his political future or place him in a difficult position during upcoming party negotiations.

With political tensions gradually building nationwide, his latest comments have once again highlighted the delicate balance between personal ambition and party loyalty in Nigerian politics.
