Exciting news could soon be on the way for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to announce a fresh salary increase aimed at improving the welfare of military personnel across the country.
The revelation was made by the Minister of Defense, retired General Christopher Musa, who disclosed that the Federal Government is already making concrete efforts to secure a better remuneration package for troops serving the nation.
According to a statement issued by the minister’s media aide, Leah Katung-Babatunde, the planned salary review reflects the Tinubu administration’s commitment to rewarding the dedication, sacrifice, and bravery of military personnel who continue to defend Nigeria under challenging conditions.
Speaking on the development, General Musa recalled how soldiers’ salaries were significantly increased during his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff. He explained that when he assumed office, many soldiers earned just N49,000, but persistent efforts led to the successful approval of a new salary of N100,000 about two years ago.
The defense minister revealed that discussions are already progressing toward another upward review, expressing confidence that President Tinubu will soon make the official announcement.
“I want to state here that a few weeks ago, I mentioned that soldiers are now receiving N100,000. When I was Chief of Defence Staff, soldiers were receiving N49,000. About two years ago, I pushed for an increase to N100,000, and that was achieved. We are, however, making further efforts to increase it again,” Musa stated.
The anticipated salary increment has already sparked widespread reactions, with many Nigerians welcoming the move as a positive step toward boosting troop morale and strengthening national security. Observers believe improved welfare could further motivate personnel serving on the frontlines while recognizing their invaluable contributions to protecting the country’s territorial integrity.
