IMN Members Reject “False” Genocide Claims, Accuse West of Stoking Religious Division

Kano City witnessed a fiery protest on November 8th as members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), widely known as Shi’ites, staged a massive demonstration against recent remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The protesters, marching across major roads, vehemently rejected President Trump’s threat of a potential U.S. military intervention in Nigeria. Trump had previously designated Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern,” alleging a genocide of Christians and warning that he instructed the U.S. Department of War to prepare an action plan if the Nigerian government failed to act.

The scene was one of strong defiance, with some demonstrators seen dragging the American flag on the ground, while others displayed effigies of the former U.S. President. They carried placards and banners denouncing the claims as baseless and provocative.

In a swift response, the IMN dismissed Trump’s comments as “inflammatory and dangerous.” The group accused Western nations of employing propaganda to create religious division within Nigeria, emphasizing that their movement has always promoted unity and peaceful coexistence. They argued that the nation’s core challenges are rooted in corruption and political greed, not religion.

The allegations have, however, sparked a national debate, with some Nigerians supporting the focus on the country’s insecurity, while many others condemn Trump’s remarks as an unwarranted interference in Nigeria’s sovereign affairs.
