A new development has emerged in the House of Representatives’ investigation into the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), as the Nigeria Police Force failed to produce the agency’s self-proclaimed Director-General, Adeyemi Adeniyi, before lawmakers.
The House Ad Hoc Committee had earlier directed the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to ensure Adeniyi appeared before the committee by noon on Wednesday to assist with its ongoing probe into the alleged agency.
However, when the committee reconvened, police representatives informed lawmakers that the suspect could not be produced because he is currently being held under a valid court remand order.
According to the police, releasing Adeniyi from custody without proper legal authorization would amount to violating an existing court directive. They explained that while the Force remains committed to cooperating with the National Assembly, it must also comply fully with judicial orders.
Police officials told the committee that a written court warrant or any other legally recognized authorization would be required before Adeniyi could be released from custody to appear before lawmakers.
The officers emphasized that they have no intention of obstructing the legislative investigation but insisted that due process must be followed to avoid breaching the remand order already issued by the court.
As a result, the police advised the committee to obtain the necessary court-backed approval that would legally permit Adeniyi’s appearance before the lawmakers while preserving the integrity of the judicial process.
The latest development has temporarily stalled the committee’s efforts to question the self-proclaimed PFIPC chief, leaving lawmakers to consider their next legal steps as the investigation continues.
The case has attracted growing public attention amid questions surrounding the status of the alleged agency and the circumstances leading to the investigation. Many Nigerians are now watching closely to see whether the House committee will secure the required court approval and proceed with Adeniyi’s appearance before lawmakers.
