Community Thrown Into Panic as Armed Kidnappers Strike Under Cover of Darkness
Residents of Ode Oriya in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State were left in shock and fear after armed kidnappers launched a brazen night attack, abducting the community’s traditional ruler and shooting his wife before disappearing into the forest.
The victim, Chief Adeniyi Adelana, the traditional ruler of Ode Oriya, was reportedly seized from his residence during a terrifying invasion that unfolded around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.
According to sources within the community, the attackers, believed to be about six heavily armed men, stormed the monarch’s home and carried out their operation with alarming precision.
What began as a quiet evening quickly turned into a nightmare as gunshots shattered the peace of the community.
Witnesses said the gunmen opened fire during the attack, critically injuring the monarch’s wife before forcibly taking the 60-year-old traditional ruler away. The assailants then fled into nearby forests, leaving residents traumatized and uncertain about the fate of their monarch.
The attack has heightened concerns over the growing insecurity affecting several communities across Nigeria, particularly in rural areas where kidnappers increasingly target prominent individuals.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Command disclosed that the injured wife of the monarch is currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
Police spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, stated that security agencies responded immediately after receiving reports of the attack.
According to him, tactical units and rescue teams were swiftly deployed to the area, with security operatives conducting extensive searches through forests, bush paths, and suspected escape routes used by the kidnappers.
“A comprehensive search-and-rescue operation was immediately activated,” Jimoh said, assuring residents that every effort is being made to secure the monarch’s safe return.
The police further emphasized their determination to apprehend those responsible and ensure they face justice.
Meanwhile, anxiety continues to grow within the community as family members, traditional leaders, and residents await positive news regarding the monarch’s whereabouts.
As security forces intensify operations across the area, many are hoping the traditional ruler will be rescued unharmed and reunited with his family.
For now, however, the mystery surrounding his location remains unresolved, leaving an entire community holding its breath and praying for his safe return.
