President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that he will not shy away from the challenges inherited from the administration of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, insisting that his government is steadily reversing the country’s economic and security difficulties.
Speaking during a meeting with Catholic bishops at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the President said his administration has remained focused on rebuilding Nigeria despite the tough conditions it encountered after assuming office.
Tinubu maintained that his government inherited significant economic and security challenges but stressed that concrete steps have been taken to address them. According to him, the nation’s economy has recovered from its most difficult period and is now on a more stable path.
“I don’t run away from what I inherited,” the President said, emphasizing that his administration has continued to invest resources in tackling insecurity and strengthening national institutions.
He revealed that he recently approved the expansion of the Nigerian Army and other branches of the Armed Forces as part of efforts to improve the country’s security architecture. Tinubu explained that the government is providing additional equipment, constructing new military barracks, and enhancing the operational capacity of security agencies to confront terrorism and other criminal threats.
The President also called on Nigerians to unite in the fight against insecurity, stressing that defeating terrorism requires the collective support of citizens alongside the efforts of security personnel.
Reflecting on the country’s economic situation, Tinubu said the difficult period Nigeria experienced after he took office is gradually giving way to renewed optimism.
According to him, “the dark tunnel” through which the nation passed has become clearer, adding that the economy has been placed on a sound footing and is no longer facing the risk of bankruptcy.
The remarks come amid continued national conversations about economic reforms, rising living costs, and security challenges.
