Fresh signs of tension have emerged within the OK Movement ahead of the 2027 general election after a spokesperson for former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso revealed that the Movement’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is unhappy over an ongoing leadership dispute.
The revelation was made by Kwankwaso’s spokesman, Ladipo Johnson, during an interview on Arise Television, where he acknowledged that disagreements had surfaced within the political bloc promoting the proposed Obi-Kwankwaso alliance.
Although Johnson admitted that the crisis has become a distraction, he dismissed suggestions that it poses a major threat to the Movement’s long-term political ambitions. According to him, supporters should remain focused on expanding the Movement’s structure across Nigeria rather than allowing internal disagreements to derail its mission.
He explained that the dispute arose from differences between some members and the leadership of the Movement, warning that actions capable of creating division among supporters could weaken efforts to build a formidable opposition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Johnson stressed that unity remains critical if the coalition hopes to present a credible alternative in the next electoral cycle.
In a significant revelation, he disclosed that Peter Obi had already been briefed on the unfolding situation and was dissatisfied with the crisis.
“Yes, we have, may I call it a distraction at the moment. It is not such, in my own humble opinion, that would lead you to take unilateral actions that could possibly scuttle or bring bad blood within the support base of the person you purportedly want to become the president of the country,” Johnson said.
He added, “I saw the presidential candidate last night along with the DG. He’s not happy about the whole situation.”
The latest development is expected to fuel further debate over the future of the proposed Obi-Kwankwaso alliance as political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 elections. Political observers will be watching closely to see whether the internal disagreements are resolved in the coming weeks.
