United States President Donald Trump has publicly praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as his decisive leadership in tackling terrorism and improving security in Nigeria, particularly efforts aimed at protecting Christian communities from violent attacks.

The commendation was contained in a letter dated July 6, 2026, which was made public on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The letter highlights growing security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States at a time when terrorism and instability continue to threaten several parts of West Africa.

In the letter, Trump thanked Tinubu for his earlier correspondence and applauded his determination to confront the security challenges facing Nigeria.

“Thank you for your thoughtful letter. Your kind words mean a great deal to me, and I appreciate your decisive leadership on behalf of the Nigerian people,” Trump wrote.

The US President specifically commended Tinubu’s commitment to addressing violence affecting Christian communities, describing it as an important part of the broader fight against terrorism.

“It is a true honor to stand with you in the fight against terrorists and to make the Federal Republic of Nigeria stronger and more prosperous,” Trump added.

Trump also stressed the importance of the long-standing relationship between both countries, noting that the partnership has become even more significant as conflict continues to spread across West Africa and other parts of the world.

According to him, the recently established US-Nigeria 2026 Defence Cooperation Roadmap provides a solid framework for strengthening joint efforts against terrorism. He further disclosed that the United States has deployed its elite Special Operations Forces to train members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, providing them with advanced skills, intelligence and operational support to enhance national security.

The American leader said the collaboration is aimed at helping Nigeria better protect its citizens, especially vulnerable communities affected by extremist violence. He also expressed optimism about strengthening diplomatic and security ties with Tinubu throughout his presidency.

The letter is expected to further reinforce the growing strategic partnership between Nigeria and the United States in addressing terrorism, regional security and economic development.
