APC Crisis Deepens As Senator Echocho Faces Suspension Over Alleged Anti-Party Moves

Fresh political tension has erupted within the All Progressives Congress in Kogi State after the party announced the suspension of Jibrin Isah Echocho over alleged anti-party activities.

The dramatic move is already triggering heated reactions across the state, especially as supporters of the senator insist the action is politically motivated and unconstitutional.

According to a resolution issued by the APC Executive Committee in Odu Ward 2, Dekina Local Government Area, the senator was accused of engaging in activities allegedly aimed at undermining party unity and promoting what officials described as a “self-serving third-term agenda.”

The suspension letter, signed by ward executives, claimed Echocho had repeatedly acted against the interests of the party despite benefiting from the APC platform for years.

Party officials further argued that the senator’s actions had created growing concerns among members within Kogi East Senatorial District, forcing the ward leadership to take disciplinary action.

However, the situation quickly took another twist after the Kogi East Progressive Forum rejected the suspension entirely.

The group described the decision as illegal, baseless, and politically driven, insisting that no ward executive possesses the constitutional authority to suspend a serving senator without involving higher party organs and following proper procedures.

Spokesperson of the forum, Musa Ibrahim, dismissed allegations that Echocho was involved in anti-party activities or planning to defect from the APC.

The suspension comes only weeks after Echocho openly criticized the conduct of the APC senatorial primary election in Kogi East, claiming the process violated party guidelines and electoral laws.

Following the controversial primary, which was won by Joseph Erico Ameh, the senator reportedly submitted a petition to the party’s National Working Committee challenging the outcome.

Now, with tensions rising inside the APC, political observers are closely watching what could become another major internal battle within the ruling party ahead of future elections.

The biggest question remains: Is this truly a disciplinary action, or the beginning of a deeper political showdown in Kogi East?
