APC Primaries: Reps Members Who Lost Return Tickets

Fresh political drama has erupted within the All Progressives Congress after several serving members of the House of Representatives failed to secure return tickets during the party primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The outcome of the primaries has already triggered intense reactions across several states, with many political observers describing the exercise as one of the biggest shake-ups within the APC in recent years.

Among the biggest casualties was House Majority Leader Julius Ihonvbere, whose attempt to secure a third term representing Owan Federal Constituency in Edo State ended in defeat. Ihonvbere reportedly lost the APC ticket to former Commissioner for Mining, Andrew Ijegbai, amid zoning arrangements believed to have influenced the contest.

Another major upset came in Edo State where serving lawmaker Eseosa Iyawe failed to clinch the ticket for Oredo Federal Constituency after losing to former Education Commissioner, Dr. Paddy Iyamu.

The primaries also delivered heavy blows in Imo State, where four incumbent lawmakers were denied return tickets amid internal party realignments and shifting political alliances.

Political analysts believe the outcome of the APC primaries may significantly alter political calculations ahead of the 2027 elections, especially in states where serving lawmakers were expected to retain strong control over party structures.

Observers say the results also highlight growing internal competition within the ruling party as influential political blocs battle for control ahead of the next election cycle.
