APC Breaks Silence On Wike’s Alleged Role In Fubara’s Withdrawal
Fresh political drama may be unfolding in Rivers State after the All Progressives Congress addressed growing claims surrounding the decision of Siminalayi Fubara to withdraw from the race for a second term. As speculation continued to spread across political circles, many had begun asking whether powerful political interests played a role behind the scenes.
However, the Rivers APC has now pushed back against those claims, insisting that the governor’s decision was not influenced by Nyesom Wike.
The issue has generated intense attention because of the long-running political tension between Governor Fubara and Wike, a relationship that has shaped much of Rivers State’s recent political landscape. Their disagreements, alongside tensions involving members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, have continued to dominate political conversations.
Following his withdrawal announcement, Fubara explained that his decision came after broad consultations with family members, political allies and associates. According to him, the move was made in the interest of preserving peace, stability and unity in Rivers State rather than pursuing personal political ambition.
Reacting to the controversy, Rivers APC spokesman Chibuike Ikenga stated that the decision emerged from internal agreements and collective discussions aimed at pursuing what the party considered a better direction for the state.
Ikenga acknowledged Wike’s influence as a major political figure but rejected suggestions that he dictated the party’s decisions. According to him, the party independently reached its position without external pressure.
As Rivers politics continues to produce unexpected turns ahead of 2027, attention is now shifting to what comes next. If Fubara is stepping aside, political observers are beginning to ask a bigger question: who ultimately benefits from the latest twist in Rivers politics?
