Former African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against introducing more taxes, warning that additional fiscal pressure could worsen hardship nationwide. In a New Year message, Kachikwu said Nigerians were already overwhelmed by economic reforms, insecurity and declining living standards, making further taxation dangerous.
He noted that the period meant for hope and renewal has instead become one of anxiety for millions of citizens. According to him, while the president inherited a fragile economy that needed urgent intervention, the execution of reforms has placed excessive strain on ordinary Nigerians. Kachikwu argued that new tax policies could push the country into deeper economic and social distress, especially when many citizens feel public revenues are not reflected in improved services.
