A fresh twist has emerged in the legal battle surrounding detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, as his former lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, finally broke his silence following the shocking termination of his services.
Days after Kanu officially dismissed Ejiofor as his personal counsel and warned him against revealing confidential information, the senior lawyer has responded with explosive remarks that have sparked fresh debate across Nigeria.
In a statement shared on Facebook, Ejiofor insisted he had deliberately remained silent despite years of what he described as blackmail, threats, defamatory allegations, and sustained attacks allegedly linked to Kanu. According to him, he chose restraint out of respect for legal ethics and professional responsibility rather than engaging in public exchanges.
The legal practitioner claimed he endured repeated accusations about both his professional conduct and personal life without responding, even alleging that threats were made against him while Kanu remained in detention. He also alleged that supporters were encouraged to target him, yet he refused to retaliate publicly.
Responding to Kanu’s renewed warning about client confidentiality, Ejiofor questioned the sudden urgency behind the caution. He suggested that the concern may have surfaced because certain information could become relevant in an ongoing defamation case involving another party.
“The time has not yet come for me to divulge professionally obtained information,” Ejiofor declared, adding that if he had intended to expose confidential details, he would have done so long ago.
