Fresh controversy has emerged in Rivers State after former Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Robinson Ewor, alleged that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s decision to sack the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and his Chief of Staff was part of a political agreement reached with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Ewor made the claims during an interview on Arise Television, where he spoke about the reported reconciliation between the governor and his predecessor following months of political tension in Rivers State.
According to him, the dismissal of former SSG Benibo Anabraba and former Chief of Staff Edison Ehie was not an independent decision by the governor but one of several conditions allegedly agreed upon during negotiations involving Wike and Fubara after the state of emergency imposed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
It will be recalled that Governor Fubara removed both top government officials on February 26, a move that generated widespread political speculation at the time.
Speaking on the alleged agreement, Ewor claimed that the governor accepted several conditions during the reconciliation process.
“The governor made several agreements with the FCT Minister, including removing the Chief of Staff and the SSG from office,” he alleged.
The former PDP acting chairman also made another startling claim, alleging that Fubara agreed not to seek a second term as governor during the negotiations. He further accused the governor of misleading his supporters regarding his political future.
The allegations come barely days after Fubara publicly announced that he had returned to Wike’s political camp by joining the Rainbow Coalition. During the announcement, the governor urged his supporters to back candidates endorsed by Wike in the upcoming general elections and declared that he had reunited with his “political family.”
As of the time of filing this report, Governor Fubara has not publicly responded to Ewor’s latest claims. The allegations remain unverified, and there has been no official confirmation from either the Rivers State Government or the office of the FCT Minister regarding the reported agreements.
The latest development is expected to fuel further political debate as Rivers State continues to witness major realignments ahead of the next election cycle.
