The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested popular Kannywood actress, Samha Inuwa, following allegations of Naira mutilation that sparked outrage online. The actress was taken into custody by operatives of the EFCC’s Kano Zonal Directorate on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
The arrest came after a video went viral on social media, allegedly showing Inuwa using Nigerian currency notes in an inappropriate manner. According to the EFCC, the footage raised concerns about the abuse of the Naira, an offence punishable under Nigerian law.
Confirming the incident, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale stated that the Commission acted swiftly after the video circulated widely. Investigators reportedly tracked the actress and invited her for questioning, which led to her arrest.
The actress is currently being held while investigations continue. The EFCC noted that she will be charged to court once inquiries are concluded.
This development has reignited conversations around respect for the Naira and the responsibility of public figures in shaping public conduct. Will this case set a stronger precedent for currency abuse in Nigeria?
