The Igarra Community in Akoko-Edo LGA, Edo State, has imposed a 9pm–6am curfew following a surge in kidnappings, including the recent abduction of the wife of youth leader Ubani Okuo. Authorities also restricted all-night burial dances to 4pm–6pm to curb nighttime criminal activities.
The move comes days after seven residents of Imoga Community were released following ransom payment, and a young girl remains in captivity elsewhere in Igarra.
HRH Oba Adeche Saiki, the paramount ruler of Igarra/Akuku Clan, said criminals may be blending with locals before striking. He added that the curfew and other protective measures are coordinated with the local government and police to safeguard residents.
Edo State Police confirmed receiving reports of suspected kidnappings, with officers directed to intensify rescue operations and community patrols. The community continues to urge vigilance as authorities work to curb the escalating security threats.
