A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has arraigned one Israel Onen over an alleged ₦60 million visa racketeering scheme. The defendant was docked by the Nigeria Police Zone 2 Command before Justice Ibrahim Kala on four counts bordering on conspiracy, fraud, obtaining money by false pretence and money laundering.

Prosecutors alleged that between 2024 and 2025, Onen conspired with others now at large to collect ₦60 million from a complainant under the guise of securing Ireland and Schengen visas for clients. The visas were allegedly never procured, and the funds not refunded.

Onen pleaded not guilty to the charges. While the police sought his remand over multiple complaints, the defence applied for bail. Justice Kala granted bail in the sum of ₦60 million with a surety of equal value, setting strict verification conditions. The case was adjourned to February 12, 2026, for trial.
