A Nigerian mother of four living in Canada, popularly known on Facebook as Ada Igbo, has shared an emotional account of her failed marriage as she approaches one year of separation on January 4, 2026. Responding to critics who questioned her decision to raise her children alone, Ada revealed that repeated efforts to involve her estranged husband have been met with silence.
She disclosed that she formally requested financial support through a letter, which her husband reportedly read but ignored, alongside his family. Ada rejected suggestions that she should leave the children with their father or send them to Nigeria, stressing that her priority remains their safety and emotional well-being.
Describing her experience as forced single parenthood, she noted that responsibility cannot be imposed on an absent parent. Her message has sparked widespread reactions online.
Addressing those who judge her situation, she asked:
“Since I ‘shouldn’t carry the burden alone,’ what exactly should I do? Drop my children on the main road and go and live my life? Hand them over to someone who has chosen to be absent?”
Ada concluded her post by highlighting the reality of forced single parenthood, noting that responsibility cannot be forced on a man who refuses to be present. With the holidays approaching, her message served as both a defense of her choices and a plea for support.
“How do you make a man who has chosen to be a deadbeat suddenly become involved in his children’s lives? Because from where I’m standing, I didn’t choose to do this alone… It’s 4 days to Christmas and I decided to scream out hopefully I get help.”
