The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed an attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, November 17, 2025, when bandits invaded the school, killing the Vice Principal and abducting 25 students.
According to CSP Nafiu Abubakar Kotarkoshi, spokesperson for the command, the armed attackers, wielding sophisticated weapons, entered the school at approximately 4:00 am, opening fire as they forced their way in. Although police tactical units engaged the bandits in a gunfight, the assailants managed to scale the school’s fence, abducting 25 students from their hostel.
During the attack, one staff member, Hassan Makuku, was fatally shot, while another, Ali Shehu, sustained a gunshot wound to his right hand.
In response, the police command swiftly deployed additional tactical squads, military personnel, and local vigilantes to track the terrorists’ movements and rescue the abducted students. The teams are currently combing the bandits’ routes and nearby forests to rescue the students and apprehend the perpetrators. Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Kebbi State. He urged the public to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of police efforts to maintain peace and stability.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, confirmed the incident and noted that the state government is closely monitoring the situation. The exact number of abducted students is still being verified. Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida, has been dispatched to the school for an on-site assessment, representing Governor Nasir Idris, who is currently out of state. The government is collaborating with security agencies to ensure the safe return of the students and restore normalcy to the community.
