The Campaign for Democracy (CD) has condemned what it described as the barbaric and senseless extrajudicial killing of several young citizens in Akinlalu town, allegedly carried out by operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps.
In a statement signed by Olufemi Lawson, General Secretary of the group, CD described the incident as “a cold-blooded massacre that has exposed the deep rot, lack of training, and absence of professionalism within the Osun Amotekun Corps.”
Lawson expressed outrage that a security outfit created to protect the people has now become a threat. “The killing of these youths, some of whom were siblings, is tragic and criminal. Those responsible must be brought to justice immediately,” he said.
The group also accused Amotekun Commandant Adekunle Omoyele of gross misconduct, alleging a history of extrajudicial killings and human rights violations from his time in the Nigeria Police Force.
CD demanded Omoyele’s immediate arrest and investigation, calling on the Nigeria Police and the Osun State Government to reform the Amotekun Corps to prevent future abuses.
“Justice must be served for the murdered youths of Akinlalu. Any attempt to protect the perpetrators will face nationwide resistance,” Lawson warned.
The group vowed to ensure accountability, stressing that the victims’ killers must not escape justice, no matter how powerful they are.
