Minister of Information Mourns Arise News Anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu, Assures Swift Investigation

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, describing her passing as a heavy blow to the Nigerian media and the nation at large.

In a condolence letter addressed to Arise News Chairman, Nduka Obaigbena, the minister hailed Maduagwu as a vibrant and dedicated journalist whose professionalism and commitment resonated with audiences across Nigeria and beyond.

“I write to convey our deepest condolences to you and the entire ARISE News family on the shocking and untimely death of your esteemed anchor, Ms. Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who by every account was a vibrant and dedicated news anchor, consummate lawyer, and a model of professionalism whose work resonated with audiences across Nigeria and beyond,” Idris stated.

The minister lamented the “heinous incident that cut down a promising young journalist in her prime,” stressing that her death was a grievous loss not only to her family and Arise News but to the Nigerian media industry and the entire country.

He further assured that a swift investigation will be carried out to unravel the circumstances surrounding her untimely demise.

According to a statement issued by his media aide, Rabiu Ibrahim, Idris extended heartfelt sympathy to Maduagwu’s parents, siblings, colleagues, and friends, praying that God grant them strength to bear the painful loss.
