The Delta State Police Command has arrested a woman identified as Joy Osoya, a nurse, and three other suspects for allegedly selling a newborn baby in Ika North East Local Government Area of the state.
The case was first reported to the Owa-Oyibu Police Division on September 25, 2025, by a human rights activist, Osim Daniel, following a petition from Morka Celestine of Raphael Obiake Street, Boji-Boji Owa.
According to the petition, Celestine alleged that his neighbour, Joy Osoya, sold her baby shortly after delivery. Acting swiftly, detectives arrested Osoya, who confessed during interrogation that she indeed sold the infant.
How the Baby Was Sold
Osoya reportedly led police operatives to the residence of Angela Emi, a nurse who delivered the child on September 22 and allegedly facilitated its sale for ₦1.5 million.
A source revealed that Osoya admitted receiving ₦1 million from Emi after the transaction.
Police Investigation
The police recovered ₦555,000 from Osoya as part of the proceeds. All five suspects — Osoya, Emi, and three others — have been taken into custody.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed that efforts are ongoing to trace and recover the missing baby. Meanwhile, the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Asaba for further investigation.
