Delta State Police Launch Investigation Into Gruesome Murder And Beheading Of Pastor In Ukwuani

The Delta State Police Command has begun investigations into the brutal murder of a cleric, Pastor Oputeh Monday, who was gruesomely killed and beheaded by unidentified assailants in Umuebu community, Ukwuani Local Government Area of the state.

The 59-year-old pastor met his untimely death on Saturday, September 27, 2025. According to reports, the case was filed by his son, Oputeh Joshua (26 years old), who revealed that his father had gone to his farm early that morning along the Amai/Umuebu farm road. Before leaving, he instructed his children to bring him a motorcycle later in the day.

Tragedy struck when his children, on their way to the farm, heard gunshots nearby. Upon rushing into the bush, they discovered their father’s lifeless body with his head severed.

Police detectives from Obiaruku Division immediately visited the crime scene and evacuated the corpse to Medisar Mortuary, Obiaruku, for preservation and autopsy.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary investigations have commenced while confidence-building patrols are ongoing in the community to restore calm and ensure safety.

The police command has assured residents that the perpetrators of the heinous crime will be tracked down and brought to justice.
