The Yobe State Police Command has arrested four suspected criminals in separate operations across the state, including a 19-year-old serial rapist, an armed herder, and two others accused of attacking police operatives.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Saturday, stressing that the suspects were apprehended for offences ranging from child defilement to illegal possession of firearms.
Serial Rapist Who Lured Victims With Candies
According to the statement, Dahiru Ali, 19, a domestic worker from Hayin Kwari, was arrested by the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl in the Mutawassada area of Potiskum.
Further investigations revealed that Ali had previously committed a similar crime against another three-year-old girl in the same neighborhood. The suspect reportedly lured the children with sweets and milk before molesting them. He has since confessed to the crimes, with investigations still ongoing.
Armed Herder Arrested in Damaturu
In another operation, police operatives from A Division Headquarters, Damaturu, arrested 24-year-old Ibrahim Alhaji Ahmadu of Dusuwa Village in Kalallawa, Damaturu, following a distress call from a farmer.
The farmer accused Ahmadu of trespassing on his land. When confronted, the suspect allegedly threatened the farmer with a gun. Police later arrested him in a sting operation, recovering a shotgun with live ammunition.
Attack on Police Operatives in Nguru
The Command also disclosed that two additional suspects were apprehended for allegedly attacking police officers on duty in Nguru. The incident was described as an assault on constituted authority.
Police Commissioner Condemns Crimes
The Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, condemned the incidents, describing them as “heinous crimes” and reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance for criminality.
He further urged parents and guardians to closely monitor their children to shield them from predators while warning criminals that the police will deal decisively with offenders
