Nigeria’s political landscape has taken another dramatic turn as the Kwankwasiyya Movement declared that no judicial ruling, political intimidation, or administrative obstacle will prevent it from achieving victory in the 2027 general elections. The bold statement follows the recent court decision that nullified the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), a development that has intensified debates over the future of opposition politics.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Dr. Muhammad Sale Habibu, the movement reaffirmed its loyalty to its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, insisting that its mission to offer Nigerians what it described as a government built on justice, competence, accountability, and equity remains unchanged.

While acknowledging the constitutional role of the judiciary, the movement expressed concern that the court’s decision could reinforce public perceptions that powerful interests are attempting to limit political competition ahead of the 2027 elections. It argued that the timing of the judgment, coming as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) begins preparations for the next general election, has raised fresh questions about the fairness of Nigeria’s democratic process.

Kwankwasiyya also pointed to legal debates surrounding whether a court can set aside its own final judgment under the circumstances, maintaining that such issues should ultimately be resolved by appellate courts to preserve public confidence in the justice system.

The movement warned that prolonged legal uncertainty surrounding opposition parties could weaken democracy by reducing voters’ political choices. It urged the judiciary to remain impartial, called on INEC to strictly follow the law, and appealed to civil society groups and the international community to closely monitor developments.

Despite the setback facing the NDC, the movement insisted its commitment to democratic renewal remains firm and that no legal or political challenge would derail its vision for Nigeria. It expressed confidence that the rule of law would prevail and that Nigerians would ultimately decide the country’s future at the ballot box.

As political alignments gather momentum ahead of 2027, the latest declaration signals that the battle for power is becoming increasingly intense, with opposition groups vowing to resist any move they believe could undermine democratic participation.
