Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Okonkwo dismissed Obi’s legal action, insisting he never defamed the former Anambra State governor and accusing him of making false claims.
According to the lawyer-turned-politician, Obi misunderstood the legal basis of a defamation suit, arguing that such cases are filed over statements already made—not comments someone merely intends to make.
“Peter Obi is a classless, non-charismatic politician with little knowledge and zero depth,” Okonkwo said, claiming that Obi’s legal team should properly educate him on the principles of defamation law.
Okonkwo maintained that every statement he made regarding Obi is publicly available on his social media accounts and can easily be verified.
He explained that his earlier comment merely cautioned Obi against suing a former spokesperson because confidential information could emerge during legal proceedings, insisting he never made defamatory remarks.
The ADC chieftain further alleged that Obi had already initiated legal steps through a pre-action notice before the comments that later became the subject of public debate.
In another dramatic twist, Okonkwo accused Obi of attempting to undermine prominent political figures from Nigeria’s South-East, alleging that the former governor targets individuals whose influence continues to grow within the region.
He also referenced comments previously made by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who had described Obi as someone who “lies like a fish drinks water,” questioning why no legal action had been taken against him.
The latest exchange has intensified political tensions ahead of the 2027 elections, with supporters of both politicians already engaging in heated debates across social media. As the legal dispute unfolds, many Nigerians will be watching closely to see how the courts address the matter and whether the public war of words escalates further.
