The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has dismissed reports claiming its Osun State chapter has collapsed its structure to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The denial comes after reports emerged that a factional chairman of the party in Osun State, Mr. Remi Omidire, allegedly wrote to the APC State Chairman, Alhaji Tajudeen Lawal, announcing the adoption of Oyebamiji as the party’s preferred candidate for the upcoming poll.

Reacting to the development, the Chairman of SDP State Chairmen in Nigeria, Mr. Femi Olaniyi, popularly known as Ferrari, described the report as false and misleading. He insisted that the authentic leadership of the party in Osun remains under Mr. Funsho Fabiyi and has not entered into any alliance with the APC or any other political party.

According to Olaniyi, the letter attributed to Omidire did not originate from the recognized leadership of the SDP and should be disregarded by party members and the general public.

He alleged that the report was the handiwork of individuals seeking to create confusion and mislead voters ahead of the closely watched governorship election.

“The Osun State chapter of the SDP has not, and will not, collapse its structure for any political party. SDP is not for sale,” Olaniyi declared.

He reaffirmed that the party remains fully committed to participating in the governorship election and continues to campaign actively across the state.

Olaniyi also issued a stern warning to those responsible for spreading what he described as false information, cautioning that legal action could be taken against anyone found deliberately circulating fake news capable of misleading the public.

With political activities gathering momentum ahead of the election, the SDP urged its supporters to remain focused and ignore claims suggesting the party has abandoned its governorship ambition.

The latest development adds another twist to the build-up to the Osun governorship election, as political parties continue to position themselves for what is expected to be a fiercely contested race.
