The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of losing control over key government appointments, citing what it described as a disturbing leadership crisis within the Presidency.
The opposition party made the allegation in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, following reports that a director of the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA), who was reportedly removed through a presidential directive, has allegedly continued to occupy the office and hold official meetings.
According to the ADC, if the reports are accurate, the situation goes beyond an ordinary administrative dispute and raises serious constitutional concerns about who truly exercises executive authority within the Federal Government.
The party questioned whether presidential directives are still being implemented, arguing that Nigerians deserve clarity on who has the power to appoint or remove public officials.
The ADC also linked the controversy to the recent scandal surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), describing both incidents as evidence of growing confusion within the administration.
According to the statement, the PFIPC controversy, involving a self-acclaimed Director-General and allegations surrounding the agency’s legitimacy, had already raised questions about the integrity of government appointments before the latest BCDA episode emerged.
The opposition party further argued that repeated policy reversals by the Federal Government have weakened public confidence in the administration. It cited decisions such as the suspension of the Cybersecurity Levy and the withdrawal of the Expatriate Employment Levy after public criticism as examples of what it described as inconsistent governance.
ADC warned that uncertainty over government decisions could negatively affect investor confidence, public institutions and the country’s overall stability.
The party called on the National Assembly to investigate the situation and determine whether constitutional procedures relating to presidential appointments and removals are being properly followed.
As political tensions continue to build ahead of the 2027 general election, the latest remarks are expected to fuel fresh debate over executive authority, governance and accountability within the Tinubu administration.
