Rivers State Shakes as Fubara Sacks Commissioners and Public Officers

Rivers Crisis Deepens After Supreme Court Verdict

In a dramatic political twist, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has ordered the immediate dismissal of all commissioners and public officers serving under his administration.

The move, announced in Port Harcourt by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, follows the recent Supreme Court judgment that directly impacted the Fubara-led government.

Valedictory Session at Government House

During a valedictory session with his outgoing cabinet at the Government House, Port Harcourt, on Wednesday, Governor Fubara expressed gratitude for their loyalty and contributions to the state over the past two years.

He commended the commissioners for their roles in driving key development projects across Rivers State and connected the action to the symbolic spirit of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

Fubara urged citizens to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in fostering peace, security, and prosperity across the nation.

“The governor highlighted the significance of Nigeria’s Independence, and called on all Nigerians to work together with Mr President to build a peaceful, secure and prosperous country and a brighter future for all,” the official statement read.

Renewed Commitment to Rivers People

Governor Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving Rivers people with renewed vigour, while extending his appreciation for their unwavering support during the turbulent political period.

Background to the Mass Sack

The statement confirmed that all commissioners and public officers have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect.

This mass purge follows earlier disruptions when Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), who briefly acted as the interim administrator of Rivers State after Fubara’s suspension by President Tinubu, had suspended commissioners, dissolved boards, and removed parastatal heads.

Since Ibas’ exit on September 18, the status of Fubara’s cabinet remained uncertain until this announcement.

The development is seen as a major reset of Rivers State’s political leadership, setting the stage for what may be a new beginning under Governor Fubara’s renewed mandate.
