David Mark-Led ADC Expels Nafiu Bala — Party Cleansing or Crisis Deepens?
Fresh drama inside ADC… and it’s getting intense
The African Democratic Congress (ADC), under the leadership of David Mark, has expelled Nafiu Bala and several others over alleged anti-party activities during the just-concluded national convention.
Yes… right after choosing new leaders, the party is already taking tough disciplinary action.
According to the leadership, those expelled were accused of actions that undermined party unity and disrupted the convention process. In their view, this move is necessary to restore order and send a clear message: indiscipline will not be tolerated.

This isn’t happening in isolation.
ADC is already dealing with internal leadership disputes, court cases, and uncertainty over recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Now, with expulsions added to the mix, tensions are rising even further.
Supporters of the decision say it’s a bold step. They believe the party must clean house to move forward, especially ahead of 2027. For them, discipline and loyalty are key to building a strong opposition platform.
Others, however, are not convinced.
They argue that expulsions at a time like this could deepen divisions rather than solve them. In a party already battling legitimacy issues, removing members might create parallel factions and fuel more legal battles.

In Nigerian politics, internal conflicts rarely end with one decision. They often escalate.
So what does this mean for ADC?
On one hand, it shows leadership trying to assert control and stabilise the party. On the other hand, it risks pushing disagreements further underground — or into the courts.
