Fresh Security Alert: Presidency Warns Worshippers Against Mountain Prayers Over Bandit Threat

A warning from the Presidency is now drawing attention across parts of North Central Nigeria after growing security concerns triggered a message many worshippers may not have expected.

For years, mountains and remote prayer grounds have remained places of spiritual retreat for many believers seeking quiet environments for fasting, reflection, and special prayer gatherings. But recent developments are now raising serious concerns about safety in some of these locations.

The latest warning came from Abiodun Essiet, who advised residents and religious groups in Kwara State and Kogi State to temporarily suspend mountain prayer activities, commonly known as “Ori Oke” gatherings.

According to the presidential aide, the advice follows growing insecurity and reports suggesting that mountains and forest regions are increasingly being used as hideouts by armed groups and criminal elements.

The statement emphasized that the warning should not be interpreted as discouraging worship or religious activities. Rather, it stressed that faith and worship can be practiced safely without exposing individuals to potential danger.

Many worshippers traditionally visit mountain tops and secluded areas because they believe such locations provide peace and a stronger spiritual atmosphere. However, security concerns are now shifting attention toward personal safety and risk awareness.

The advisory also comes amid reports of violent incidents in parts of Kwara and Kogi, where attacks, kidnappings, and criminal activities have generated fear among residents.

As reactions continue to emerge, many people are now asking an important question: Could changing security realities reshape long-standing worship traditions, at least temporarily?

For many families and worshippers, the concern extends beyond religious practice itself. The larger issue remains ensuring safety while preserving faith and community life.
