The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a fresh warning to Nigerians who have relocated from their previous places of residence, urging them not to register again ahead of the voter registration deadline.
Instead, the electoral body advised affected voters to apply for transfer of their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) to their new locations, stressing that multiple registrations remain illegal under Nigeria’s electoral laws.
The commission made the clarification as the continuous voter registration exercise enters its final phase, with thousands of eligible Nigerians rushing to update their voting information before the deadline.
According to INEC, voters who have changed their residence should simply request a transfer rather than creating a new voter record, warning that duplicate registration could lead to the cancellation of their voter details and possible legal consequences.
