Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is facing a wave of mixed reactions after announcing his return to the political camp of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, a move that has divided supporters and reignited debates over the future of Rivers politics.
The governor made the surprise declaration during the foundation-laying ceremony of the RIVEN Medical Industries Project in Rumuosi, Port Harcourt, where he confirmed that he had joined the Rainbow Coalition, a political movement led by Wike ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Fubara also used the occasion to publicly endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term and declared his support for Kingsley “OK” Chinda as the next Governor of Rivers State.
“I am supporting President Tinubu for the Presidency and OK Chinda to be the next Governor of Rivers State. I am part of the Rainbow Coalition, and I’m back to my political family,” the governor said.
Calling for an end to the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State, Fubara appealed to residents and political stakeholders to put aside their differences and support his decision, insisting that reconciliation was necessary for lasting peace and sustainable development.
However, his announcement immediately triggered strong reactions on social media, with many of his supporters expressing disappointment while others defended the governor’s decision as a strategic political move.
