The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, as a public holiday in celebration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

This was confirmed in a statement released on Monday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

In his goodwill message, Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora, urging citizens to uphold the patriotic spirit, unity, and resilience that have sustained the country since independence in 1960.

The Minister also encouraged Nigerians to continue believing in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which he said is anchored on national rebirth, economic transformation, and collective prosperity.

Tunji-Ojo expressed confidence that with unity and cooperation among citizens, Nigeria would continue to grow stronger in peace, progress, and development.

He further wished all Nigerians a happy and memorable Independence Day celebration.

Nigeria gained independence from British colonial rule on October 1, 1960, and has since celebrated the date annually as a symbol of freedom, sovereignty, and nationhood.

This year’s celebration marks 65 years of independence.
