Nigerian businessman and social commentator Prince Isaac Fayose has reignited the debate over Nigeria’s economic situation, using the recent wedding ceremony of popular content creators Peller and Jarvis to highlight what he described as the growing hunger and hardship across the country.
In a video shared on his official Facebook page on Sunday, Fayose congratulated the newlyweds but said one scene from the event stood out more than the celebration itself.
According to him, the number of area boys and people begging for food outside the venue far exceeded the number of invited guests, a situation he said reflects the deepening economic challenges confronting many Nigerians.
“Jarvis and Peller, congratulations to you. I saw many good people there but I saw more of the area boys on the street. The area boys are even more than the guests,” Fayose said.
He argued that the sight of people running after vehicles in search of food and financial assistance was evidence of the widespread hardship currently affecting the nation.
Fayose also criticized President Bola Tinubu over a recent remark in which the President stated that hunger existed in Nigeria long before he was born.
According to the businessman, the current level of hardship has worsened under the present administration, adding that Nigerians expected practical economic solutions rather than explanations about the country’s historical struggles.
“Our President came out and said that before he was born, there was hunger. Now the hunger has tripled,” he stated.
Fayose further claimed that the government lacks a clear economic strategy to address rising food prices and the cost of living, alleging that many citizens have become overwhelmed by the country’s economic realities.
His comments have generated mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians agreeing that economic hardship remains a major concern, while others defended the government’s ongoing reforms and called for patience.
As conversations around inflation, unemployment, and the rising cost of living continue, the issue of economic welfare is expected to remain one of the dominant topics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
