Ondo Health Workers Celebrate as Aiyedatiwa Approves New Federal Salary Structure

Relief and renewed hope are spreading across Ondo State’s healthcare sector after a major government decision that many workers believe could transform conditions within public hospitals and health institutions.

The latest move by the administration of Lucky Aiyedatiwa is already attracting attention, especially at a time when concerns over manpower shortages, poor welfare, and the migration of medical professionals continue to affect Nigeria’s health sector.

The Ondo State Government has officially approved the implementation of the revised federal salary structure for medical officers and other health workers in the state, a development expected to improve morale and strengthen healthcare delivery.

The announcement was made in Akure by Bayo Philip during an annual gathering organized for retired permanent secretaries and tutors-general.

According to the Head of Service, the decision forms part of broader efforts aimed at making the health sector more attractive while also boosting productivity among workers. He further revealed that the state government plans to recruit additional personnel to address manpower shortages currently affecting public hospitals.

The administration was also commended for prioritizing workers’ welfare through regular payment of retirement benefits and expansion of the civil service workforce. Reports indicate that approximately 5,000 new workers have already been employed across different sectors to improve service delivery.

Another aspect of the announcement that generated reactions was the approval of accommodation support for retired graduate headmasters whose cases reportedly remained unresolved for years.

Observers believe the salary adjustment could help reduce pressure on health workers while improving confidence within the sector. However, many residents are now watching closely to see whether the new structure will also translate into better healthcare services for the public.

As expectations rise, one major question remains: Could this move set a new standard for worker welfare in other states across Nigeria?
