The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has sounded a stern warning to political actors in Anambra State ahead of the November 9, 2025 governorship election.
In a statement jointly signed by its factional Deputy President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and National Spokesperson, Chief Thompson Ohia, on Wednesday, the group condemned the growing wave of smear campaigns, propaganda, and hate speech that have defined political campaigns in the state.
Ohanaeze specifically called out the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate and incumbent Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, alongside his wife, Nnonye Soludo, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Evangelist Nicholas Ukachukwu, with his running mate, Senator Uche Ekwunife.
The statement accused Governor Soludo of instigating slanderous campaigns against his political rivals, urging him to refrain from derogatory slogans and insults.
“Without hesitation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo firmly holds Governor Soludo accountable for instigating this repugnant campaign of slander against his political adversaries. It is our duty to urge him to refrain from derogatory slogans and mockery,” the group said.
The organisation also condemned the ongoing feud between Mrs. Nnonye Soludo and Senator Uche Ekwunife, describing their bitter exchanges as “a lamentable affront to both motherhood and womanhood.”
While stressing its neutrality, Ohanaeze warned that if the candidates persist in these “unscrupulous campaign tactics,” it may reconsider its stance and openly question their moral and ethical qualifications to govern.
The statement concluded with a reminder that politics must be conducted with decency, cultural values, and integrity, warning against further “abhorrent politicking” that could inflame divisions in the state.
