Tension in Osun as Amotekun Arrests Most-Wanted Kidnapper ‘Bishop Awasere’ After Fierce Gun Battle

Security tension heightened in Osun State after the Amotekun Corps successfully apprehended a notorious criminal, Ayoola Samuel Awe, popularly known as Bishop Awasere, during a violent confrontation in Ilesa.

The 42-year-old Awe, long declared one of Osun’s most-wanted criminals for multiple kidnappings and murders, was captured on Saturday, September 6, 2025, following an intense gun battle between his gang and operatives of Amotekun.

According to a statement by the Corps Commander, Isaac Omoyele, the arrest came after weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering. Operatives stormed Awe’s hideout around 5:59 p.m., where his gang attempted to resist but was overpowered.

“The suspects engaged our operatives in a fierce exchange of gunfire that lasted several hours, but we prevailed. Awe and one of his associates were captured alive,” Omoyele confirmed.

Recovered from the gang were hard drugs, dangerous charms, and other incriminating items, now serving as evidence for ongoing investigations. Authorities say the exhibits will help uncover the full extent of the gang’s criminal operations.

While Awe and one gang member are in custody, other members fled the scene during the operation. Omoyele assured residents that security forces are pursuing them aggressively and will bring all fugitives to justice.

The Amotekun Corps reaffirmed its commitment to securing Osun State from violent criminals and urged the public to remain vigilant as investigations continue.
