Calabar Tragedy: Mother Accuses Police of Killing Son Who Tried to Preach to Governor

CALABAR, Nigeria – A grieving mother, Mrs. Victoria Mba, has accused police officers in Cross River State of brutally killing her 22-year-old son, Moses Onyekachi Mba, after he attempted to deliver what he called a divine message to the state governor.

According to Mrs. Mba, her son was beaten and shot by security operatives on August 1, 2025, outside the Government House in Calabar, after repeatedly insisting he must see the governor.

“He explained that God gave him a vision and directed him to deliver His words. Instead of listening to him, they treated him as a threat, beat him, and shot him,” she recounted tearfully.

She alleged that Moses, who would have turned 23 in November, was abandoned in a pool of blood for hours before Red Cross officials rushed him to the Navy Hospital. Despite undergoing surgery and multiple blood transfusions, he slipped into a coma and died on August 9.

The grieving mother rejected claims that her son was mentally unstable, stressing that he was a devoted Christian, preparing for university admission after scoring 196 in JAMB.

“They said my son was mad. This was the boy who wanted to study Business Administration. He never drank or smoked. All he wanted was to serve God,” she said.

Mrs. Mba further alleged attempts by government officials to cover up the incident, including threats and pressure on the family to cooperate with police narratives. The police have reportedly insisted on an autopsy before burial, while the family says the case has stalled.

Until his death, Moses was the eldest of four siblings and known for his deep faith and generosity.

“He was a loving and peaceful boy who gave without thinking of himself. Everybody in our compound is feeling his absence,” his mother said.

Nearly a month after the incident, the family claims neither the Cross River State Government nor the police have offered sympathy or reached out.

The Mba family is now demanding justice, transparency, and accountability over what they describe as the unlawful killing of their son.
