Nigerian actor Bucci Franklin has revealed how his foundation in church drama not only sharpened his acting skills but also deepened his spiritual journey.
Speaking on the WithChude podcast, posted on Instagram on Friday, Franklin recalled how his earliest stage experience began at the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA).
According to him, he was the only teenager among much older men in the church’s fellowship drama group.
“I started from church. In my formative years, I was attending ECWA. Imagine being the only teenager in the men’s fellowship drama group, performing with men in their 50s right there on the pulpit where baptisms were held,” he recounted.
Franklin explained that these early performances were more than just stage practice — they also provided spiritual grounding that has stayed with him throughout his career.
“When I think about my experience as a child growing up and having different encounters with my Heavenly Father as regards my job, I know. I don’t need a soothsayer or somebody with a silver tongue. I know,” he added.
The actor credited those church drama days for shaping his sense of purpose and giving him the balance between faith and entertainment.
