LAGOS, Nigeria – The management of legendary Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has debunked suggestions that controversies surrounding his marriage and personal life are diminishing his legacy.
This comes amid heated online debates following his divorce from Annie Idibia and subsequent marriage to Edo lawmaker Natasha Osawuru.
Speaking on Friday, the Head of Legal and Communication at A Guy Entertainment, Chioma Ebubedike-Igbokwe, maintained that 2Baba’s reputation as one of Africa’s greatest musicians remains unshakable.
“The truth is, controversy sells faster than music in today’s digital climate. But 2Baba’s legacy is untouchable,” she stated.
She highlighted that Billboard’s recognition of African Queen as the number one Afrobeats song of all time only reaffirmed his status, while describing him as “widely regarded as the greatest of all time in African music.”
Ebubedike-Igbokwe stressed that the management is building platforms where 2Baba’s voice and influence remain indispensable, rather than competing with younger artists.
She added:
“Rather than compete with younger acts, our strategy is to showcase his unmatched depth, storytelling, and stagecraft. His status as the undisputed king of Afrobeats remains unmatched.”
When asked about 2Baba’s silence on recent controversies, she explained it was deliberate:
“Social media thrives on drama, but history thrives on substance. 2Baba is already etched in history as the emotional voice of a generation. With new projects and tours in the pipeline, his cultural weight is undeniable.”
She concluded that the singer will speak on his own terms at the right time, emphasizing that his silence is a show of “grace over noise.”
