The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has launched a fresh attack on President Bola Tinubu’s administration, alleging that the controversy surrounding the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has damaged Nigeria’s image and raised serious questions about integrity within the Presidency.
Speaking during an interview on Symfoni TV, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, claimed the PFIPC controversy has created an embarrassing impression both locally and internationally.
According to Abdullahi, the allegations surrounding the purported agency have fueled public concerns that corrupt practices may be taking place at the highest levels of government.
“Not just Tinubu but all of us as Nigerians should feel collectively embarrassed because the impression that has been created before the world today is that the Nigerian presidency is a den of corruption,” he said.
Abdullahi further alleged that reports of individuals collecting money to facilitate appointments, contracts and access to government officials have become a growing source of concern, adding that many Nigerians are beginning to wonder whether the PFIPC case is an isolated incident or part of a wider problem.
The ADC spokesman stressed that the President has a responsibility to ensure a transparent investigation into the matter in order to restore public confidence and demonstrate that the Presidency is not involved in any form of corruption.
He also argued that President Tinubu’s public expression of confidence in his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, has generated mixed reactions, with some Nigerians questioning whether an independent investigation would be allowed to proceed without interference.
Abdullahi suggested that Gbajabiamila should voluntarily step aside while investigations continue, saying such a decision would help guarantee transparency and protect the credibility of the Presidency.
“If I were Gbajabiamila, I would offer to proceed on leave so that this investigation can be carried out and I can be exonerated beyond all doubts,” he said.
The PFIPC controversy has continued to attract national attention, with investigations by the House of Representatives and law enforcement agencies still ongoing. As political reactions intensify, many Nigerians are awaiting the outcome of official investigations to determine the full facts surrounding the alleged agency.
