The political drama in Rivers State has taken another dramatic twist as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, accused unnamed politicians of using Governor Siminalayi Fubara to fuel the prolonged political crisis that rocked the state.
Speaking during a special media chat in Port Harcourt on Saturday, the former Rivers State governor claimed that those who allegedly encouraged Fubara to confront him lacked the political strength to sustain the battle once tensions escalated.
According to Wike, the governor placed too much confidence in individuals who, in his view, never had the capacity to fight the political war they encouraged him to wage.
“Unfortunately, they used Fubara. To tell you the truth, the governor overrated them. They had no capacity at all to fight, and they saw it,” Wike said.
The minister alleged that the same political figures who once stood behind the governor have now turned against him following his decision to reconcile with his former political camp.
Wike claimed that Fubara’s move to return to what he described as his “political family” angered some of his former allies, who have since intensified public criticism against the governor.
According to the FCT minister, the backlash is driven by personal interests rather than genuine political principles.
“Now, when the governor decided to return to his political family, go and see how they are abusing him now. Because there is no longer opportunity to siphon money, so they are abusing him,” he alleged.
The latest comments come amid ongoing efforts to restore stability to Rivers State after months of political tension that drew national attention and deepened divisions among key political stakeholders.
Although reconciliation efforts have recently gained momentum, Wike’s latest remarks are expected to reignite political debates over the events that triggered the crisis and the role played by influential figures behind the scenes.
